Introduction
The Engagement Issue

To meet the needs of students pursuing degrees online, Northcentral University is taking great strides to complement its individualized, one-to-one learning model with an approach that makes students feel part of a larger community.

In this issue, Provost Dr. David Harpool shares his insights on how the University’s focus on ‘teaching by engagement’ is making an impact. You’ll also read about how NCU’s enrollment team is setting the foundation for long-lasting relationships with students starting with their first introduction to NCU. From new programs and specializations, to the recently launched dissertation boot camp, to resources such as the NCUOne Learning Management System and the Center for Teaching and Learning, the opportunities for students to become more involved at NCU are better than ever.

This issue also features a story about two graduates who are dedicating their careers to keeping students engaged in education. While Dr. Funmilayo Bolonduro seeks ways to bring online education to remote areas of Africa, Dr. Catherine Crocker supports doctoral students in completing their dissertation, the final stage of their academic journey.

We hope you enjoy the issue, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions for the next publication of Higher Degrees. Please send your comments and ideas to: HigherDegrees@ncu.edu.
